Google Business Profile Guidelines

Based on my Experience

Article by Google Ranking Expert

Here are the guidelines for creating and managing a Google Business Profile:

  1. Eligibility: To create a Google Business Profile, you must be authorized to manage the business you are creating the profile for.

  2. Accurate Information: All the information you provide about your business should be accurate and up-to-date. This includes your business name, address, phone number, website URL, business hours, and any other relevant information.

  3. Representing your Business: You should only create one profile per business, and it should accurately represent your business. You should not create multiple profiles for the same business location, or create profiles for businesses that don't exist.

  4. Business Name: Your business name on Google should match your real-world business name. You should not add unnecessary information to your business name, such as location information or keywords.

  5. Categories: You should choose the most relevant category or categories for your business. You should not choose categories that are not relevant to your business, or try to "game" the system by choosing unrelated categories.

  6. Photos: You should add high-quality photos that accurately represent your business. You should not add photos that are not relevant to your business or that violate Google's policies.

  7. Reviews: You should not solicit reviews, offer incentives for reviews, or post fake reviews on your profile. You should also not engage in any behavior that violates Google's review policies.

  8. User Content: You should monitor user-generated content on your profile, such as reviews and photos, and remove any content that violates Google's policies.

  9. Personalization: You should personalize your profile by adding a logo, cover photo, and other relevant information. This can help your profile stand out and attract more customers.

  10. Prohibited Content: You should not add content to your profile that violates Google's policies, such as content that is sexually explicit, promotes violence, or promotes illegal activities.

  11. Verification: You may be required to verify your business before your profile is published. This typically involves receiving a verification code by mail or phone, or by verifying your business through Google Search Console.

  12. Updates: You should regularly update your profile with accurate information, such as changes to your business hours or phone number. This can help ensure that customers have the most up-to-date information about your business.
